Getting to Bhutan
Bhutan can be accessed either by air or by road, depending on your location and travel preferences.
✈️ Flying into Bhutan
Paro International Airport is the only international airport in Bhutan and the sole gateway for all air travelers. Two airlines operate flights to and from Bhutan:
- Druk Air (the national carrier)
- Bhutan Airlines
These airlines offer inbound flights from several international cities, including:
- India: New Delhi, Kolkata, Bodh Gaya, Bagdogra, and Guwahati
- Nepal: Kathmandu
- Bangladesh: Dhaka
- Thailand: Bangkok
- Singapore
Travelers can visit the respective airline websites to check flight schedules and book tickets in advance.
🚗 Entering Bhutan by Road
There are three official land entry points for international tourists coming from India:
1. Phuentsholing (Chukha District)
- The most commonly used land border, located in southwestern Bhutan and connected to West Bengal, India.
- Approximately 176 km (5-hour drive) from Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital.
- Roughly 170 km from Bagdogra Airport in India.
2. Gelephu (South-central Bhutan)
- Connects with the Indian state of Assam.
- Ideal for travelers heading to central Bhutan.
3. Samdrup Jongkhar (Southeastern Bhutan)
- Also borders Assam and is suitable for exploring eastern Bhutan.
- Located about 150 km from Guwahati International Airport.
