Day 1: Arrival in Paro
Arrive at Paro International Airport from Bangkok, Delhi, Kathmandu, Kolkata, or other Druk Air destinations. Enjoy a breathtaking aerial view of the Himalayan ranges and lush Paro Valley as you descend. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by a representative from our team and transferred to your hotel. Relax and settle in for a two-night stay in Paro.
Day 2: Paro Sightseeing
Explore some of Paro’s most significant historical and cultural landmarks. Begin with a visit to Drugyel Dzong, a ruined fortress of great historical importance where Bhutanese forces defeated Tibetan invaders. Continue to sacred sites like Dilgo Khyentse’s Temple, the ancient Kichu Lhakhang (built in the 7th century), and Dungtse Lhakhang, constructed by the great iron bridge builder Lam Thongto Gyalpo. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the National Museum housed in Ta Dzong, a former watchtower, followed by a tour of the imposing Rinpung Dzong below. End the day with a visit to a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse and take a relaxed stroll through the local village. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
Day 3: Hike to Taktshang & Transfer to Thimphu
Today’s highlight is the iconic hike to Taktshang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), perched on a sheer cliff 600 meters above the Paro Valley. The monastery is believed to be the sacred site where Guru Rinpoche meditated after flying there on a tigress. The uphill hike takes around 3 hours; ponies can be arranged to the tea house viewpoint. Enjoy lunch and tea while admiring the stunning view of the monastery. After descending, meet your driver and continue your journey to Thimphu (approximately 1.5 hours), following the Paro River to the confluence with Wang Chhu. Dinner and overnight in Thimphu.
Day 4: Thimphu Sightseeing
Spend the day discovering Thimphu’s cultural and spiritual heritage. Visit the Memorial Chorten, Buddha Dordenma Statue at Kuenselphodrang, and the grand Tashichho Dzong, which houses the King’s offices and monastic body. Continue to the National Library, the Institute for Zorig Chusum (arts and crafts school), the Traditional Medicine Institute, and the Textile Museum. Explore the Folk Heritage Museum, Simtokha Dzong—the oldest in Bhutan—and other sacred monasteries around the capital. Overnight at your hotel in Thimphu.
