Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Paro – Drive to Thimphu
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our guide and driver, then drive for about an hour to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. Depending on your flight timing, we may visit a monastery or the Memorial Stupa dedicated to the Third King, where many locals engage in prayers and prostrations.
Day 2: Thimphu Sightseeing
Explore Thimphu with visits to Changangkha Monastery, built in the 12th century, and Zilukha Nunnery, known for its historic ties to Thangtong Gyalpo. Then visit Pangri Zampa, an astrology school run by state monks, and, for those interested, meet Dorji Phangmo, a revered female reincarnation associated with longevity.
Day 3: Thimphu to Punakha via Dochula Pass
Drive to Punakha, stopping at Dochula Pass (3200m) for panoramic Himalayan views and the 108 chortens. En route, visit Chimi Lhakhang, a fertility temple associated with the Divine Madman. In Punakha, visit the impressive Punakha Dzong, an architectural gem and a religious center.
Day 4: Punakha & Wangdue Sightseeing
Visit Nalanda Buddhist Institute and engage with young monks who are pursuing monastic education. Later, visit a local farmhouse to observe and experience traditional Bhutanese rural life and customs.
Day 5: Drive to Gangtey
